چکیده

Intelligent tutoring systems customize the learning experiences of students. Be cause no two students have precisely the same learning history, traditional analytic techniques are not appropriate. This paper shows how to compare the learning his tories of students and how to compare groups of students in different experimental conditions. A class of randomization tests is introduced and illustrated with data from the AnimalWatch ITS project for elementary school arithmetic.

Enriching Solution Space for Robustness in an Intelligent Tutoring System

Intelligent tutoring systems assist medical faculty in training and equipping students with the required clinical reasoning skills. Plausible student solutions to a given problem are rejected by tutoring systems as being incorrect, if they do not match a specific solution accepted by the tutoring system. This leads to brittleness in evaluating student solutions. In this paper we describe a comb...

Modeling Human-Like Robustness in an Intelligent Tutoring System

Intelligent tutoring systems are no different from other knowledge based systems in that they are often plagued by brittleness. Intelligent tutoring systems for problem solving are typically loaded with problem scenarios for which specific solutions are constructed. Solutions presented by students, are compared against these specific solutions, which often leads to a narrow scope of reasoning, ...

Methods for Evaluating Simulated Learners: Examples from SimStudent

We discuss methods for evaluating simulated learners associated with four different scientific and practical goals for simulated learners. These goals are to develop a precise theory of learning, to provide a formative test of alternative instructional approaches, to automate authoring of intelligent tutoring systems, and to use as a teachable agent for students to learn by teaching. For each g...

Comparing Student Model Accuracy with Bayesian Network and Fuzzy Logic in Predicting Student Knowledge Level

The use of computer has widely used as a tool to help student in learning, one of the computer application to help student in learning is in the form of Intelligent Tutoring System. Intelligent Tutoring System used to diagnose student knowledge state and provide adaptive assistance to student. However, diagnosing student knowledge level is a difficult task due to rife with uncertainty. Student ...

Evaluating the Impact of Interface Agents in an Intelligent Tutoring Systems Authoring Tool

This paper describes the evaluation of a speech-driven cartoon agent that has been embodied in the interface of a Web-based Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs) authoring tool. The agent is mainly used in the student interface of the ITSs that are produced by the authoring tool and represents either a student or an instructor. The agent was evaluated during an experiment in terms of the effect t...
